Significant investments have been made in the UK facility, firmly establishing it as a centre of excellence for titanium machining for large landing gear components. Landing gear developments include a focus on providing fully integrated landing gear systems with a drive towards reduced complexity and efficient weight with full reliability and reduced maintenance. Future landing gear developments include such areas as Health Monitoring, a more Electric Landing Gear and Green Taxiing.
Aerospace – a Key UK Sector
Aerospace is one of the key areas of the UK’s advanced manufacturing sector. The UK, with its highly skilled workforce and extensive experience, designs, manufactures and assembles some of the most technologically complex and valuable parts of today’s aircraft including wings, engines, aero structures and advanced systems such as landing gear systems.
Safran is proud to be involved with the Aerospace Growth Partnership. The AGP is a strategic partnership between Government and industry which has been established to secure the future of the UK aerospace industry for the next 20 years and beyond. The AGP has not only led to a step change in the relationship between Government and industry, it has also encouraged UK companies to co-operate more closely in addressing the challenges that affect the sector as a whole. The AGP and industry’s investment in new technologies, R&D, advanced manufacturing capabilities, skills development and supply chain competitiveness can only help ensure we maintain a strong aerospace industrial base in the UK. In today’s challenging times it is more important than ever that Government and strategic industries such as aerospace to create a stable economy with potential for future growth.
